Still alive…

Life has changed for me quite a bit in the last 2 months or so…I´m not single anymore, and that, together with a few things associated with it, makes it hard for me to focus on films and reviews as I have been acustomed to before.

I will try my best to make time for new reviews, it`s not like I have stopped watching movies.

Hope to offer something new soon.

I also started a new job, even if it`s not full-time, that also is a welcome change.

I hope  for me and my new-found love to both work and make a good life for us together.

Luckily, she ain`t the kind of girl that wants to change your life completely, or makes you give up hobbies .

There are girls like that, believe me. Not the case here….hope to return with quality content soon.

It´s only …some things gotta be done first and are more important and time-consuming than my little blog.

The new Van Damme Blu Rays…WTF?

I must say I´m so very dissapointed in whoever greenlit these covers.

Why not keep the old artwork of the movie-posters?

These are hackjobs of the worst kind, the blue and grey makes it look so cheap, but seems like a trend there.

Luckily, there are different artworks, depending on the country they get released in…the french Death Warrant looks halfway decent and actually has a picture from the film..they put a frickin scene out of Lionheart on there and a badly photoshopped face..holy cow that`s a hackjob if I have ever seen one!!

They just don`t care it seems….

Thoughts on the Robocop remake

By now, everybody should know about the Robocop remake, right?

Well, just want to write down my thoughts on it quickly…

While I don`t doubt that Padhilla can make a good action movie, I cringe at the fact that someone thought it a good idea to remake/reboot Robocop. Instead of coming up with something new, Hollywood is drowning in remakes and reboots.

I don`t need to write much about that, it`s evident for everybody.

In case of Judge Dredd, it was a good idea, cuz the Stallone version was a watered down desaster.

Can`t wait to see it.

But Robocop? A cornerstone of Sci-Fi? A masterpiece like that needs no remake or reboot.

What an insult..as if Robocop 3 wasn`t enough.  While I certainly will watch the new Robocop(not in the theatre), I `m sure I won`t be able to shake the dislike of something so unnecessary.

There were a lot of cheap knock off DTVs, at least they didn`t call themselves Robocop. Knock offs of populat films are to be expected and some of them are fun. Variations of a basic idea. I get that. But to insult a classic like Robocop should remain untouched..move on, try to show me something else.  I know it`s tough, after 100 years of cinema, to come up with original material, but please..leave a few icons alone. I´m curious  to see how it does at the box office.

Will teens of today embrace a new Robocop? How many of the older generation will pay to see a new Robo?

Hope it tanks, bad.

Let`s hope  nobody will try this with the Terminator.

My head hurts!!!

At the moment, I don`t feel focused when it comes to reviews, dunno…my head is allover the place.

The daily things keep my head so busy, it`s hard for me   to focus on reviews and films, I don`t even watch that much anymore since a few days…weird.

But I can`t fake it and  don`t want to deliver mediocre stuff, just to post stuff. Yet I have found time to paint, which als relies on how I feel, very much so.

I think, at the moment I have so many ideas and things in my head, which means frustration , since some of those plans are impossible to act out without the funds..Im very short on cash, which naturally slows things down. I had two canvases donated, so it was about time to put them to use..hence the painting…I also plan to draw more stuff…at least that isn`t connected to money.

Somehow, running a blog, you feel the need to post often and much stuff, as to keep the interest afloat, sure. But life gets in the way sometimes. I don´t make money with this, its just for fun..so there should be no pressure. Just post, what and whenever you like, right?  Since I am not a horror, or action-only blogger, I don`t even have a target group set in stone…

I do notice, though, that Van Damme still generates the most clicks, and I shall work on JCVD`s catalougue a bit more, still a few awesome movies to write about. I will try to write as free as possible, direct from my heart n mind , I can`t say I have a structure to my writing anyway, lol…I don`t pretend to be a good writer. But as long as it comes from the heart, some of it should translate to the reader.

I will be back soon, making up for lost time and throw the stuff at your eyes that I love and hold dear..or just flat out hate,lol..Don`t write me off just yet…I´?ll be back..with a vengeance!!!

VIDEO STORE memories….the good times

Freddy in Space just linked an article on Facebook, about abandoned video stores. Shows the decline of the oldschool video stores we all spent quite some time at.

http://www.flavorwire.com/325194/a-brief-photo-survey-of-abandoned-video-stores?all=1

Not even big chains are excluded from the decline. They all feel the change that the internet brought upon them.

Access to movies was never this easy. Netflix zooms the film right into your home, with lots n lots of films.

Movies also have never before been this cheap. I remember paying 60 german marks for one tape, or 100 for a Laserdisc.

Now its between 5 and 25 dollars or euros, tops. All easy to access, via  your favourite online retailer, complete with lots of infos about them, like reviews, quality comparisons and such.

I met a bunch of good friends in my local video store, friendships made through the movies. A few of them are my best buddies now. The video store was like a pub, only without alcohol..coffee was the drug of choice. The  Coffee was free, too. I went thru several pots a day, staying up to 12 hours sometimes…ok, I know thats sick, but it`s true. Must have been a period when I was unemployed or the holidays, lol. Also, we were able to blast some great metal thru the store..Oh , the good times. I even drew a few comics based on that(which I still have ).

Got a story? Let me know your best memories from back then, when video stores were the place to be!

Totally random…just had to do this!!!

The Cabal Cut keeps on showing..Blue-Ray is in reach!!!

Morgan Creek has given permission for more screenings of the Cabal Cut of NIGHTBREED.

The restored version was already shown to sold out screenings and now will go worldwide!!

The funding for the Blue-Ray is tied to those screenings, so in case it`s showing near you-go see it!!

For the latest infos, go here

It`s the trailer for: Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning (2012)

I will see this in the theater in a  week, at the Fantasy Filmfest here in Hamburg!!

Trailer looks pretty interesting, although I try to not get overly excited. I especially don`t like Scott Adkins, but that`s me.

Here is the first trailer:

I COME IN PEACE widescreen Laserdisc

I just turned 40, and some people were nice enough to visit and put gifts in my hands.

One of them was this- the widescreen Laserdisc of I COME IN PEACE with Dolph Lundgren

Not too shabby, right?

There was more, but this stands out for me,,,

AIRWOLF hand-painted display on Amusement Park Ride

My brother shot some pics at our local, 4 -times a year amusement park and browsing his photos taken,  I came across this.

A hand-painted Jan -Michael Vincent/Airwolf paint job.

I think thats pretty cool, so I´ll share it here.

JUDGE DREDD POSTER–yeah…

That is the kind of posters I like….

Hardware aka MARK 13 poster

I tried to find a poster for this film, but since it`s a smaller film and there surely wasn`t much advertisment , it seems almost impossible to find an old video store poster from the 90`s.

All I could find was one that had  a completely different artwork from the german cover I was looking for. I decided to make it myself then…found a decent resolution picture online, erased a few things here n there and blew it up to 4 times it`s size.

Thanks to it beeing pretty dark and low on details, it worked pretty damn well.

Recently I got a sort of voucher from my health insurance for a photo online shop, and after checking them out I decided to do this, paying only 5 bucks in plus . Still not the one awesome company I used before to make one of these for my buddy Jason over at robotGEEKS Cult Cinema , but for 5 bucks I took the chance. The quality is decent enough, but just a bit under the standard I`ve seen with posterjack.com.  NOw I have one for myself, too. All that is needed now is the frame.

The picture quality of the shot I took doesn`t represent the glory that is this poster, but you get the idea.

If  it doesn`t exist-make it yourself…..

This will look awesome once it hangs on my wall!!!

THEY LIVE DVD and Blue Ray from SCREAM FACTORY !!! artwork revealed!

That is the kick-ass cover art for the upcoming release of THEY LIVE on DVD and Blue-Ray.

I personally always vote for the original cinematic poster artworks, but since those can differ from country to country, maybe this ain`t such a bad pick. If you want a poster of this, you must pre-order your  copy of the Blue-Ray or DVD  now..fast!!

via Scream Factory:

“We’re especially pumped to reveal to you our official key art of John Carpenter’s THEY LIVE! The DVD & Blu-ray streets 11/6 (yes, on Election Day).

Batman rises…and I`ll go see it, too..soon

So, TDKR starts soon here in Germany, and that is going to be one of the few films I am willing to go to the cinema for. I already missed the Avengers, cuz I didn`t wanna go alone, and there was no one who would  come with me..which is weird…isn`t it?… Batman starts here on Thursday I believe. I am so glad we have one or two cinemas, which  do show it in OV, meaning in english language, I am so used to that by now, I simply prefer it. Very sad, that the movie will always be associated with the massacre that took place.

Again, it started a totally overblown reaction regarding security and all that. It is impossible to protect us from stuff like that. School shootings and the like will happen again and again, regardless. There is no guaranteed security, not on the street, not in the air, not in space ..nowhere. Hope you have a good time with Batman in the cinema, may you all return home unharmed. Have fun!!!!

DAVI SINGS SINATRA

Did you know? I didn`t!!!

Things just got a bit more serious…

I am very excited to tell you that I got approved for trial to review Mill Creek Entertainment Movies!!!

A few of the bloggers and Youtubers I am following have good relations with Mill Creek, and so came the idea, to try and ask them for review samples. Try, you must -said Yoda!

I wouldn`t have asked them, if I wouldn`t like what they are offering, so I am very happy to get the chance to do this.

Since they are not shipping review copies overseas ( I am sitting in Germany) , I have to abuse a friend to receive and forward it to me(thanks a million, Jason). That will take a few extra days, but the most important thing is that they end up in my player, lol. But if I do my job well, and I certainly plan to-I think that some releases can find their way to me early enough, before they are officially available.

And even if they decide to send me anything else, what`s a few days, right?

I am looking forward to this, and while the first sample is on it`s way, why don`t you check out Mill Creek`s website, full of great stuff: From single DVD`s and BlueRays to double and triple sets, full seasons or even complete season`s collections, 50 and 100 movie sets, documentaries  and so on…there is something for everybody, I`m sure.

I am planning to add videos to the reviews, too. That way you can see it up close and I can show it to you beyond simple pictures.

CLICK HERE to visit Mill Creek Entertainment!!!!

Here is me-painting stuff-GREEN LANTERN in acrylics

I rarely paint, mostly due to the lack of material, it all costs money in the end…but I had the urge lately to paint something. This time, after I did a Batman one, it felt right to do this-the Green Lantern. Somehow I want to make a few more, also green, like the Hulk and maybe Green Arrow?-That could be called”the green series”then….Hope you like it!!!

Help Video Free Brooklyn !!!

Thanks to “From  The Depths of DVD Hell” , I came across this post on their Facebook page.

NYC film critic Aaron Hillis recently bought with his wife the Brooklyn based video store “Video Free Brooklyn” to save it from being closed down. The aim now via Indiegogo is to raise the $50,000 required renovations to renovate the shop as part of an ambitious plan to save the store, the full details of which you can find here: http://igg.me/p/104301

I think that`s one hell of a good idea…I´d probably do the same thing if I could…

Video stores have been hit hard by the digital changes and the internet, but that  doesn`t mean a good video store with people behind the counter actually knowing about their movies and caring about their customers  must be a thing of the past.

So I am totally with them, wishing them all the best for this fund-raiser and all the success in the world long-term.

If you like this idea, too…maybe you have a few bucks you wanna give to this good cause. And even if not, maybe just spread the word on your facebook or blog or wherever…

Radioactive Dreams on DVD-plus OST

Ok, this DVD is out since early last year already, and by now not easy to find anymore,if you do, it`s still pricey.

First of all-the quality of the DVD isn`t the best, they didn`t take a good master. I`ve been reading that there is supposed to exist a remastered version, picture and sound, but until that materialises, it`s just rumours.

The small lable JAM put this out, as single DVD and as Special Edition, including the soundtrack.

They were originally asking 35 Euros(roughly 50 $) for it, which is a bit much, especially when considering the poor quality.

And the single DVD sold for 8 or 9 Euros.

The limited (1000) SE has a different cover than the single -disc DVD.

Still, it`s the first officially released version on DVD. But I also read that they forgot to license the DVD logo, which resulted in Amazon and other retailers  pulling it from sale. (Still a few on sale, but not directly from Amazon)

Let`s hope there is a remastered version out there, and somebody more quality-oriented decides to give this film a chance.

After all, it´s one of Albert Pyun`s better ones.

The film comes in two versions, the german cut, which is slightly longer, and the US cut.

It comes in german and english, Deutsch (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo), Englisch (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo)

And  it`s widescreen16:9 – 1.85:1( still not the original aspect ratio) , even if the intro is fullscreen, but that was intended that way.

You can still find a few of them on Amazon.de

BAD ASS POSTER OF THE DAY!!!

Came across this poster, as I was browsing for phantom soldiers, this is a french poster, and its kinda big, too.

I am not affiliated with the seller, but I know that some of my dear readers have a certain interest in this film, so I thought I post about it…3 days to go…

here is the link:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/affiche-cinema-1987-PHANTOM-SOLDIERS-war-movie-poster-/350559528520?pt=FR_SK_DVD_Collector_Affiches&hash=item519ef9e648

THE AVENGERS are making good money…

Ok, that ain`t no surprise, I guess.

The movie opened here already(Germany), and in many other countries as well.

I will see it in the next few days, a screening around 2 pm,maybe. I don`t want the theatre to be packed, I`m getting pissed at people easily, so the less visitors, the better.  Normally, I wouldn`t go to the theatre for something like Captain America or Hulk, or Iron Man. But with free tickets, I am easily to convince. And this time, it`s more than just one, it`s a full army of super heroes, and everyone must like at least one of the characters, right?I expect to have a good time!!!

The only thing that bothers me is Hulk, again a new actor for that character. But that´s just a  minor complaint.

In the US, you have to wait til May 4th.

Expect a review soon.
