Dragon Eyes (2012)
Directed by John Hyams
St. Jude Square is a neighborhood living in fear and despair. The dueling gangs of local kingpins Dash and Antuan terrorize the streets and the citizens live without a shred of hope… until mysterious stranger Ryan Hong (Cung Le) arrives in town. He begins to play one gang against the other using his unparalleled martial arts skills, and by calling on the teachings of his brilliant mentor Tiano (Jean-Claude Van Damme) to find the strength to battle back. However, just as he begins to bring the community under control, Hong is confronted by Mr. V, the town’s ruthless and corrupt police chief. At first Mr. V is impressed by Hong’s skill, but soon sees Hong as a threat to his regime, and the two warriors are locked in a head-to-head battle, pitting the fear and corruption of Mr. V’s regime versus the new beginning Hong represents for the people of St. Jude Square. Well, a new Van Damme?
No, far from it. This is the good ol`bait `n switch, as there are many of them out there, big names that only appear for seconds or a few minutes in the actual film.
This has Van Damme as the “mentor” for Cung Le, while in prison, training him or somethin…
The rest is a c-grade gang flick, with Cung Le as the hero, saving the day.
This you can easily avoid, there`s nothing worthwhile to see here.
The few scenes with Van Damme training also add no excitement to this bad, bad flick.
Kinda hurts, when even Peter Weller plays a role in such a crap.
John Hyams seems to have learned nothing from his father. He is just one more crap director.
Compared to this, the ever-in the making EAGLE PATH (now renamed I believe in “Soldiers”) must be a great movie.
Don`t waste your money on this, really. Not even a minute of your time.
Trailer to this crapfest below.
Im glad that there are other, sane people out there, who agree about DRAGON EYES. It sucks!!
I didnt provide a real, in-depth review, but the final product is the same…
After I got flamed by some fanboys on a VAN DAMME forum for telling it like it is, this makes me feel good.
